If you are looking for the best luxury boutique hotel in Barcelona, you may well want to stay in the Grand Central Hotel. The hotel was built in 1926 and exudes an Art Deco grandeur, with understated elegance.
Imagine that you have had a long day in the city, and you’ve got quite a long journey back to your hotel. I on the other hand am staying in the Grand Central, on the Via Laietana, right in the beating heart of the city. The Via Laietana separates the Gothic Quarter from the Born District, with its cool bars and café’s It is perfectly situated in from the Jaume 1 Metro Station and close to bus and taxi stations. While you are trying to hail a taxi in the heat of the late afternoon, along with the rush hour traffic, I am sitting in the Sky Bar, the roof top bar in the hotel, sipping one of their signature cocktails. The bar is situated with the infinity pool. Wow, what a view!
The food here, if you like dining al fresco is very reasonable priced. How does grilled octopus with a baked aubergine cream and tahin sound? The Sky Bar is open from April to October, and is widely considered one of THE places to go in Barcelona.
Alternatively you may choose to eat in the City Restaurant in the Hotel, where local and seasonal food is served up. It is fine dining, but again remarkably good value. The hotel likes to pride itself that you will arrive as traveller but leave as a local, and if you are after an authentic Barcelona eating experience, then this is where you need to come even if you are not staying in the hotel.
The hotel also has a well appointed gym and spa on the 8thfloor. There’s nothing like working out with a view of Barcelona stretching out before you. The spa is an oasis of comfort and serenity with an impressive menu of treatments as you would expect from a luxury boutique hotel in Barcelona.
There is a good selection of 186 rooms in the hotel. The rooms are perhaps a little on the small side, but are well laid out, with comfortable beds. There are free soft drinks and beer in the mini bar.
Room Categories range from Standard to Executive and Deluxe up to several categories of suites
Barcelona does of course have a reputation for being over-touristy, and that is certainly the case. However, you will not notice the pressure of too many tourists once you are safely back in the Grand Central. It will seem an oasis of calm, and luxury and elegance. And that is why it is the best luxury boutique hotel in Barcelona
